- The Beccles Triathlon is organised by Beccles Triathlon Club and run by Beccles Lido Limited (BLL), a registered charity (no 1132102). It is a fundraiser to support the running costs of Beccles Lido and profits go to BLL, with a contribution to event organisers Beccles Triathlon Club. From the moment that we start to organise an event, there is a considerable amount of work, expense and risk. Each event takes many hours of forward planning and represents a financial risk. The following terms and conditions are set in place to ensure that we continue to provide athletes with safe and enjoyable events, year on year.
- Applicants acknowledge that this event is run under British Triathlon Federation (BTF) rules and agree to abide by these (details here: British Triathlon Competition Rules) as well as the terms and conditions set out below.
- Numbers are strictly limited and the closing date for entries is 14 May 2023 or when entry limit is reached, whichever is sooner. Full details of the event are available on the website (www.becclestri.com).
- All competitors must be aged 17 or above on 31 December 2023.
- Age group categories will be calculated based on the competitors age on 31 December 2023, in line with BTF policy.
- Applicants acknowledge and agree that basic personal information can be used in the publicising of race results.
- BLL maintains the right to refuse or revoke entry to any applicant, where they believe that accepting the entry could prejudice the event, BLL or its partners. This right of refusal extends to include applications where acceptance is considered by BLL to be likely to infringe upon the enjoyment of any persons connected with the event, including members, marshals, volunteers and other participants.
- All athletes acknowledge that participation in the Beccles Triathlon is physically strenuous and that it will be physically demanding and the applicant is aware of the nature of the event and associated medical and physical risks involved; they agree to participate entirely at their own risk and in the unlikely event of injury, accident, loss or damage suffered, regardless of however it may be caused, no responsibility whatsoever shall be attached to BLL or any persons involved in the organisation of the Beccles Triathlon. The applicant accepts that should any medical or physical condition arise prior to the Beccles Triathlon which is likely to affect their ability to compete, the applicant will withdraw in accordance with these terms and conditions.
- While the organisers take every care with the staging of the event, the applicant acknowledges that personal accident and personal items insurance is his or her sole responsibility. BLL hereby excludes all and any losses, liabilities, claims, damages, expenses or costs (whether as a consequence of its negligence or otherwise) arising in connection with athletes participation in the Beccles Triathlon. British Triathlon Federation/Triathlon England members are covered by their Members Insurance (details here: www.britishtriathlon.org/membership) and all other applicants will have a day race license included in their entry fee for third-party insurance. If you require more you will need to take out your own insurance.
- All decisions and rulings by the organisers are considered final. Accordingly, the applicant will comply with all event rules and all instructions and guidelines given by stewards, marshals, and safety personnel. In order for instructions given by stewards, marshals and safety personnel to be heard, the use of headphones is not permitted. The applicant acknowledges and agrees that the organisers will organise and run the event and will have sole authority and be the final arbiter on all decisions relating to the safety, running and organisation of the event, the rules of the event, the timings/finish times and the placings. The applicant acknowledges and accepts that circumstances concerning an event may change from time to time for reasons out of the organiser’s reasonable control or otherwise, without the organiser incurring any liability and without any rights to withdrawal being accrued by the applicant.
- Applicants acknowledge that as a charity BLL, will not refund the entry fee in the event that the applicant withdraws from the race and entries are not transferrable. Applicants may apply for a deferral to the 2024 event although acknowledge that the organisers cannot guarantee that it will take place. If an applicant defers, they acknowledge that they can only do this once, and their place will be withdrawn if they do not take it up the following year. The deadline for applying for a deferral is 7 May 2023.
- In the event that the triathlon is cancelled, for whatever reason, applicants acknowledge that BLL, a charity, may already have incurred irrecoverable expenses and applicants acknowledge that they will at the sole discretion of BLL be refunded up to 60% of the entry fee, where requested, but not the Entry Central transaction charge.
- The organisers will make every reasonable effort to ensure that Beccles Triathlon goes ahead. In the event of thunder and lightning before the start of the race, or any other adverse race conditions, the race could be delayed. If these conditions persist and it is deemed dangerous to swim, or if there are any other reasons including but not limited to ensuring safety, the race committee could make the decision to change the format of the race (eg. into a duathlon – replacing the swim with an additional run) or the course of the race. If this does happen no refunds or partial refunds will be permitted.
- The organisers reserve the right at any time to remove applicants from the Beccles Triathlon at their sole discretion, if it considers such action necessary for safety reasons or the proper enjoyment of the event by other participants or for any other reasonable reason. No refund of the entry fee shall be made if the applicant has acted negligently, maliciously, with wilful misconduct or otherwise without due care and attention for the event or other participants, so as to cause his/her removal.
- The organisers maintain the right to use images and photographs taken by their contracted photographers and members/marshals at the event without informing or recompense to participants. These images can be used for promotional purposes as undertaken by BLL and their partners, which will cover a range of possible uses including advertising press and media, printed information items, editorial coverage and any other promotion directly related to BLL or their partners.
